some days you wreak havoc...

... you know, just plow forward without thinking too much and worry about consequences later. Sometimes, it's the thinking too much that can sink you. Let's hope.

Because, relying on this theory, I have just spent the last several hours sending out one ballsy letter after another regarding my soon-to-be-released (ok, not-so-soon-to-be-released) young adult novel, The Pull of Gravity. These letters have included emails to literary/reading contests asking how I go about getting my (yet-to-be-released) book to be one of the selected titles, emails to a few major companies whose products just happen to make an appearance in my story if they might be interested in doing a little cross promotion (hahahahhahah! er) and an email to a pretty famous Middle Grade author my boys love asking if he'll read an advance copy of my manuscript and consider blurbing it for me if he loves it.

Talk about balls. Er.

But if you don't ask, you'll never know.

Right?

(RIGHT???)

(and I do believe in my book).

  1. Nice! Like we say in the grantwriting biz, "You'll always never get the grant you don't apply for." I'll bet lots of good things flow from this, er, forwardness.

  2. Yep. You have to ask. They could all say yes/agree, etc.

You have to have big balls in this business I always say. Okay, I don't, but still...

  3. Excellent! Almost all of the somewhat famous writers I contacted about reviewing One Wolf Howls (after it was published) not only were happy to do it, but said very nice things. I know reading a novel is a bit more of a commitment, but I bet you'll get a positive response from the middle-grade authors you contacted.

  4. You're doing everything right, my friend. (I didn't even know you had a blog. My bad. Will follow.)

  5. I think that sounds GREAT. You really never know unless you ask, and somebody may very well take you up on it! There really is no down side except the couple hours spent drafting, and considering the payoff if even a couple come through... I think this was smart!

  8. I agree with everyone else, you'll never know unless you ask. You don't have anything to lose if they say no...but lots to gain if they say yes. Good luck!
